It is assumed that this Upchurch Family Website will grow in scope and usefulness over the months and years to come. As one
active in family and local history for many years, Phil Upchurch visualizes that many useful resources can be brought to the attention
of visitors to this website. While the number of resources will be limited in the beginning, more will be added over time. For
example, many local history and family history documents are out of print.
Upchurch Family of England, Virginia, and North Carolina. By Belle Lewter West, 1972.
This scholarly work is out of print. The late Belle West is a member of The Moses Upchurch/Murray Upchurch Subclan - Isham Sims
Upchurch Line. She and her colleagues were the first to research and publish a credible book on our family. They deserve more
credit than they have received. In the 1970s, she and Phil became close collaborators. She counted on Phil to continue her work
which he has tried faithfully to do.
3. WHO IS PHIL UPCHURCH?
For 19 1/2 years I was an Administrator and Professor in The College of Agriculture at The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
While there, I initiated an Oral History Project to capture the memories of participants in Arizona Agriculture. In 1994, my own Oral
History was captured by this program.
